OS X:: How To Install New Graphics Card On MacBook Apr 21, 2009 I am not that good with computers. Ok, so my question is: how do I install a new graphics card into my macbook, without buying a new computer? I have the older white macbook. I was thinking of putting in the new NIVIDA GeForce 9400.

I have ordered an ATI Radeon HD 4870. Feb 24, 2007 My hard drive on my old B&W finally crashed the other day. I got a new hard drive for it a few days ago. I upgraded the graphics card from a rage 128 to a radeon 7000 sometime ago. Do I need to put the old rage 128 in when I reinstall OS 10.3?
Or is it ok to install it with the Radeon 7000 in it? Sep 26, 2009 Basically, I wanted to just go on a simple game of Runescape with a friend of mine, and on High detail it was lagging. Now I'm sorry, but I have run High Detail on a freakin 4 year old dell with a 128mb internal gfx card and it hasn't lagged. Is there a way I can check which graphics card is being used? Is there a way I can force it to use the 9600M GT?
Mar 28, 2009 Is it possible to update the graphics card in an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz macbook? Unfortunately it has the old GMA 950 graphics card in it. Sep 16, 2009 Regardless of wether the computer is set for High Performance or Better energy Savings in System Prefs, its always seems to default to 9600M. It worked fine for about a month before the problem developed. The problem itself isn't that recent but it was over summer and didn't bother me a lot because I was at home a lot, but now that I am at College, having a computer that can hit 8 hours of battery life instead of 2 would be really good.
What are the default graphics cards provided with each Mac Pro? What Mac Pro compatible video cards are available for purchase later? What is the best video. Gofanco USB 3.0 to DVI/VGA Video Card Adapter with External Graphics Chipset and a DVI-to-VGA Converter - up to 2048x1152 for Windows & Mac systems (up to Mac OS 10.13.3 & Latest 10.14 ONLY) (USB3DVI). The new Macbook pro video card has a greater chance of being an ATI card per the issues with the nVidia cards. The 8000 series have been faulted with a high failure rate, but there was hope that the 9000 series could have preformed better.
I went to system Profiler to make sure that the OS could still detect the 9400 and it does. The problem developed under Leopard and continued into Snow Leopard. All software is up to date and all Firmware updates have been applied. Oct 4, 2009 I'm not exactly hardware savvy, so please bear with me.I've been looking into some cool video games for my MacBook (white, couple of years old, Leopard), and it appears I need a new video card/graphics/whatever.
I think it's GeForce or something.I've heard in the past that the video card/graphics could not be upgraded in the Macs. Not sure if this is true or if it has changed. Is there any possible way on Earth that I could send the MacBook into a shop and get the video card/graphics updated? It doesn't have to be Apple; a genuine third party would do.
Apr 15, 2010 Do you guys think that the next revision of the MBP (late 2010/early 2011) will keep using the GeForce GT 330M? Looking back on the MBP's history, it seems that they usually keep using the same graphics card for two revisions.
I hope this doesn't hold true because I'm planning to upgrade later this year hehe:PI hope Apple starts implementing better GPUs on their laptops once Steam and other famous gaming platforms/games make it to OSX. Jun 5, 2010 Is there a way to switch on-the-fly graphic card settings between the 9400m and the 9600m without logging on and off? Feb 5, 2012 I have a MacBook Pro 15' 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 (Mid-2010). I have auto graphics switching turned on in the Energy Saver prefs. But it never switches.
It stays on the nVidia card all the time. I have tried switching to Text Edit, Mail, BBEdit, and other non-graphics intensive apps. It stays on nVidia. It stays on nVidia even when I unplug and use battery power.
I can manually change it to Intel, and it works fine. When I change it back to auto switching, it stays on nVidia continuously. Info: MacBook Pro 15, Mac OS X (10.6.7), 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 (Mid 2010) May 21, 2012 Can i upgrade my graphics card on my mac. Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8) Jun 11, 2012 my mac has been perfect for years, but just today it started with this yellowish 'mask' on the text boxes and drop down menus and the safari page is almost entirely yellow what gives?? Are there known graphics card issues with the MacBook Pro? How can I get an update for the Graphics Card? I checked for updates and it says there are none. Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8) Jul 28, 2009 I have a first gen unibody mBP (2.53 GHz) with 9600 M GT graphics card. My wife is buying a lenovo w500 laptop with ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 graphics card.
Aug 1, 2009 What I have: MBP Penryn 2.4 Ghz, 2 GB, 200 HD, Matte. What I'm looking at: Unibody 15' MBP 2.53 Ghz, 4 GB, 250 HD, Glossy.
Love the new trackpads on the MBP, not sure how I'll like the glossy screen. Would be doing some video work down the road (Canon HV40). Please tell me the difference between the performance of these graphics cards and lastly which one you would opt for. Mar 23, 2010 Under average useage (browsing the web, typing a letter, writing an email, editing photos in iPhoto, using Photoshop Elements etc.) what difference would the user see by switching to the 9600M GT card over the 9400M?
I ask cos, in the nine months I've owned this MBP, I had never bothered switching to my 9600. I've now done it and notice no difference whatsoever. Mar 21, 2012 Is it possible to change the graphics card in a 2007 MacBook pro? ( original one is faulty). Info: MacBook Pro (17-inch 2.4 GHz), iOS 5.1 Apr 7, 2012 Is there any way to upgrade the graphics card in the 2009 MacBook Pro? May 13, 2012 I have a mid 2010 MacBook, and I recently upgraded my RAM to 8 GB.
Given I have this awesome amount of RAM, I am curious if I can allocate some of this to my Nvidia 320M from 256 MB to 1 GB? Info: MacBook (13-inch Mid 2010) May 17, 2012 Is there a way to set the 320m nVidea as the sole graphics processor for the macbook pro 13, with Snow leopard, or does it have to switch between the intel processor and the graphics card? Info:MacBookPro Jun 12, 2012 i have an early 2011 MacBook Pro, and i want to update its graphics card, how can i do? Can i connect a mobile graphics card? Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8) Dec 7, 2008 Searched and only found info on using a single external monitor, is it possible to run two off of a macbook (not pro) with some sort of external graphics card? It would be outputting to two 1680x1050 monitors.
Currently have it with the single one and don't wanna just let my other monitor go to waste (use it for 360 so its off most of the time). Apr 30, 2009 Just wondering, how do you swap which graphics card on a MacBook Pro is being used by Windows. I know how to achieve this on OSX but not Windows. Dec 5, 2009 I've just myself a new 15inch MBP 2.8Ghz.
I'm wondering if people know which graphics card Windows 7 will utilize under Bootcamp? I'm wondering because I think I'll be booting Windows for gaming. Dec 30, 2009 I like to keep my laptop cool, so I usually run on the integrated 9400 graphics chip. But lately I've been finding myself playing a lot of games on my unibody mbp.
However, it gets kind of tedious to have to continually switch over to the 'better performance' 9600M option in energy saver. Instead of opening energy saver, clicking 'better performance' and then restarting, is there a simple applescript or shortcut I can just double click that will do all this for me? I'd like to just place that script on the desktop and call it 'play games' or something.' I know it's a small inconvenience, but does anyone have a solution? Or can anyone make a simple automator or applescript to handle this? Jul 16, 2010 I noticed with with gfxCardStatus that whenever my extermal 24 inch LCD is connected to my 2010 MBP i7 that it uses the Nvidia card regardless of what I select in the gfxCardStatus menu.
Based on the messages I see being logged to the console I am assuming this is normal behavior.

Among the myriad of new products proudly unveiled at Apple’s event in New York today, the company quietly rolled out a few much-needed refreshes to its MacBook line, specifically a more powerful 15-inch MacBook Pro variant you made not have heard about. The 15-inch MacBook Pro is powered by Intel’s latest 8 th Generation Core i7 series 6-core processors, but currently relies on AMD’s previous generation Radeon Pro 500 series GPUs, based on the company’s older Polaris architecture.
However, starting in November, AMD’s Radeon Pro Vega architecture comes to Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro and it’s a major upgrade in terms of graphics performance in 3D rendering for gaming, photo and video editing, content creation, design and animation. Apple’s 15″ MacBook Pro There will be two options available in the November refresh of Apple’s MacBook Pro 15, one with an AMD Radeon Vega Pro 16 GPU and another with Radeon Vega Pro 20, comprised of 16 and 20 Radeon Vega Compute Units (CUs), respectively.
Now, if you’ve been following AMD’s Vega GPU architecture, as it has filtered out into the market, you’ll probably recall the company’s collaboration with Intel on it’s that also incorporates AMD Radeon RX Vega M graphics on board a custom multi-chip module (MCM), along with 4GB of HBM2 graphics memory. It just so happens that the AMD Radeon RX Vega M GL GPU that resides on Intel’s Kaby Lake-G also has 20 CUs; so from here we can draw some rough, quick correlations on expected performance. AMD Radeon RX Vega M Graphics Performance In Dell XPS 15 2-In-1 Back to Apple’s MacBook Pro 15, the forthcoming November update will actually have a discrete AMD Radeon Vega Pro 20 and 16 graphics implementation with 4GB of HMB2 on board. HBM2 will double the memory bandwidth versus the previous gen MacBook’s Radeon Pro 560X GPU, and Vega is also bolstered with considerably more GPU resources as well. In addition, in a discrete implementation (not on an MCM with the Intel processor), Apple should be able to derive more thermal and power headroom from the GPU, potentially pushing the MacBook Pro 15’s performance north of Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 TI-class performance. We’ll have to get the new MacBook Pro 15 in hand for testing to see how it fairs but it’s certainly nice to see Apple rolling out MacBook and other device refreshes and a more regular cadence now. This is a solid design win for AMD as well, and should beef up their recently softer GPU sales numbers, with an uptick in Q4 shipments to its Cupertino-based customer.
